Putting things rightWe all make mistakes in our friendships. We need to face our mistakes and put things right to keep our relationships healthy. If we want to enjoy God's friendship all day, every day, we need to know how to sort things out when they go wrong. What do you understand by the word sin? What do we learn about sin from Romans 1v18-23 and Colossians 3v5-7? As Christians we're forgiven but we still struggle with sin. What struggles have you experienced since you became a Christian? How have you dealt with them? Read 1 Peter 3v18.
Aspects of our Eternal relationship with God
Read 1 John 1v5-10.
God wants us to enjoy his love and know his forgiveness moment by moment. For this to happen we need to deal with our sin as soon as we become aware of it. As we do this we build a strong and growing friendship with him. Dealing with our sin means that we:
Without showing others, ask God now to make you aware of anything wrong between you and him and write down the specific things he shows you. Give him time to show you everything in your life that's not right with him. When you've finished your list, write over it the promise of 1 John 1v9. Thank God for his forgiveness and destroy the list. You may need to put things right with another person if you've wronged them. After you've confessed your known sins any guilt which remains comes from the devil, not from God, and you can reject it (Psalm 103v12, Psalm 32v5). How often do you need to confess your sins to God? How can we be sure we are forgiven? We're not forgiven because we confessed but because Christ died for us. As we're transparent with God and accept his forgiveness we can enjoy his love all day every day. Read 1 John 4v16-18. What do we learn about God's love? How does confessing our sin and receiving God's forgiveness help us? Application:In your own words, write down how you can sort things out when you discover sin in your life. Develop the habit of dealing with sin as soon as you become aware of it. Think of someone you know who doesn't know Jesus. How could you help them see the joy of living for Christ? Reflect on:
